CSIR consistently remains the highest patent-generating department, securing 372 patents in FY 2021-22 and 325 in FY 2022-23.

As per the latest “Research and Development Statistics 2025-26” report, brought out by Department of
Science and Technology (DST), year-wise expenditure on research and development (R&D) by the
Government during last five years is as under:

three departments namely, the Department of Science and Technology (DST), the Department of
Biotechnology (DBT), and the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR)/Council of
