Government of India Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports Department of Sports LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 5874 TO BE ANSWERED ON 30.03.2026 Allocation of Funds for Sports Infrastructure in Gujarat 5874. SMT. POONAMBEN HEMATBHAI MAADAM: Will the Minister of YOUTH AFFAIRS AND SPORTS be pleased to state: (a) whether the Government is continuously improving and upgrading sports infrastructure across the country; (b) if so, the details thereof; (c) the details of total funds allocated, sanctioned and utilised for the development and maintenance of sports infrastructure in Gujarat during the last three years and the current-year; (d) whether the Government has taken steps to ensure the accessibility of sports facilities to both rural and urban youth; and (e) if so, the details thereof? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF YOUTH AFFAIRS & SPORTS [ DR. MANSUKH MANDAVIYA ] (a) to (e) ‘Sports’ being a State subject, the responsibility for development of sports, including continuous improvement and upgradation of sports infrastructure, allocation of resources for development and maintenance of sports facilities, and ensuring accessibility of sports infrastructure to both rural and urban youth, rests primarily with the respective State/Union Territory Governments. The Union Government only supplements their efforts by bridging critical gaps. The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports implements the following schemes for the promotion of sports in the country, including in the State of Gujarat: Page 1 of 2i. Khelo India – National Programme for Development of Sports; ii. Assistance to National Sports Federations (NSFs); iii. Cash Incentives to Medal Winners in International Sports Events and their coaches; iv. National Sports Awards; v. Pension to Meritorious Sportspersons; vi. Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay National Welfare Program for Sportspersons; vii. National Sports Development Fund (NSDF); viii. Running Sports Training centres through Sports Authority of India (SAI); and ix. National Centre for Sports Science and Research (NCSSR). Details of the above schemes are available in the public domain on the websites of this Ministry and the Sports Authority of India. Funds are sanctioned and released Scheme-wise and not component- wise in this Ministry. The details of funds allocated and expenditure incurred under various Sports Development Schemes of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports across the country, including in the State of Gujarat, during the last three years are as under: (amount in ₹ crore) Financial Year Funds allocated Expenditure incurred 2024-25 2332.50 2136.97 2023-24 2380.86 2329.35 2022-23 1907.69 1879.99 The details of the sports infrastructure sanctioned under Khelo India Scheme and NSDF, across the country, including in the State of Gujarat, are available in public domain on the dashboards of the Ministry at https://mdsd.kheloindia.gov.in and http://www.nsdf.yas.gov.in/nsdf- glance.html, respectively. The sports facilities supported under these schemes are available to all citizens of the country, including rural and urban youth.
