Allocation of Funds under Sports Promotion Schemes in Tamil Nadu
1227. Ms. S Jothimani:
Will the Minister of YOUTH AFFAIRS AND SPORTS be pleased to
state:
(a) the details of the funds allocated by the Government under
various central sports promotion schemes during the last five years,
State/UT-wise, particularly in Tamil Nadu;
(b) the breakup of sports funding in Tamil Nadu, including
allocations made for infrastructure development, training facilities
and grassroots sports promotion, district-wise;
(c) whether the Government has conducted any review or
assessment of the adequacy and effectiveness of fund utilisation
across the country including Tamil Nadu and if so, the details
thereof;
(d) whether any special focus given to rural and semi-urban areas in
Tamil Nadu to improve access to sports facilities and opportunities;
and
(e) whether the Government proposes to enhance district-level
sports infrastructure, coaching support and talent identification
mechanisms in Tamil Nadu, especially in underrepresented districts
and if so, the details thereof?
ANSWER
THE MINISTER OF YOUTH AFFAIRS AND SPORTS
(DR MANSUKH MANDAVIYA)(a) to (e): Funds are allocated by this Ministry Scheme-wise, not
State-wise/ District-wise. However, under the component “Creation
and Up-gradation of Sports Infrastructure” of the Khelo India
Scheme, 328 sports infrastructure projects (including 05 projects in
the State of Tamil Nadu have been sanctioned at cost of Rs. 29.50
Crore). Details of these projects are available at
https://mdsd.kheloindia.gov.in/ . Further, the schemes/programmes
of the Ministry are reviewed periodically as per the existing
guidelines of the Government for their effective implementation.
To promote sports in rural areas in the country including in the state

indigenous/tribal games” is implemented under Khelo India Scheme.
