AWCs IN HASSAN
1135. SHRI SHREYAS M PATEL:
Will the Minister of WOMEN AND CHILD DEVELOPMENT be pleased to state:
(a) the number of Anganwadi Centres (AWCs) functioning in Hassan district in Karnataka;
(b) whether a number of AWCs do not have permanent buildings, if so, the details thereof and
the reasons therefor indicating the number of AWCs operating from Government-owned
buildings, rented premises, school buildings, community buildings, other temporary
structures in Hassan district, taluka-wise;
(c) the details of funds sanctioned, released and utilized for the construction, repair, renovation
and upgradation of AWC buildings in Hassan district during the last five years;
(d) whether the Government has received proposals from the Government of Karnataka for
construction of new AWC buildings in the district, if so, the details thereof and the present
status of each proposal; and
(e) whether the Government proposes to sanction additional funds for construction of
permanent Anganwadi Centre buildings and improve their basic infrastructure, including
toilets, drinking water, kitchens, electricity, boundary walls and play facilities in Hassan
district, if so, the details and expected timeline for such sanction?
ANSWER

(a) to (e) As per Poshan Tracker, a total of 2,523 AWCs are functioning in Hassan district in
Karnataka.
Project-wise details of AWCs operating from Government-owned buildings, rented premises,
school buildings, community buildings, other temporary structures are at AnnexureUnder Mission Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0, Anganwadi Centres are constructed in
convergence with MGNREGS. A total of 4768 Anganwadi Centres have been approved for
construction for the State of Karnataka under MGNREGS and an amount of Rs. 486.34 lakh has
been released for the same.
Further, States/UTs have also been advised to continue to tap funds for construction of AWC
buildings from various schemes such as Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme
(MPLADS), Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF), Finance Commission Grants to
Panchayati Raj Institutions, Multi- Sectoral Development Programme (MSDP) of Ministry of
Minority Affairs, etc.
Under Mission Poshan 2.0, 2 lakh AWCs located in Government buildings have been approved
for upgradation into Saksham Anganwadis for delivery of improved nutrition and for Early
Childhood Care and Education. Saksham Anganwadis are provided with better infrastructure such
as LED screens, water filtration system, Poshan Vatika, Early Childhood Care and Education
(ECCE) material and Building as Learning Aid (BALA) paintings. A total of 701 AWCs have
been approved for upgradation in Hassan district of Karnataka.
