**Summary:**
In response to Lok Sabha Unstarred Question No. 3069, addressed on August 7, 2025, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways provided details regarding the Bharatmala Pariyojana's implementation in Tamil Nadu. (a) the amount of funds allocated, released and utilized for the highway
construction projects under Bharatmala Pariyojana in Tamil Nadu;
(b) the expected benefits of these projects in Tamil Nadu in terms of
connectivity, trade facilitation and employment generation; and
(c) the steps taken to ensure timely completion of Bharatmala projects in
Tamil Nadu and to address any delays or challenges faced therein?

(a) and (b) In the State of Tamil Nadu, 45 projects covering a length of about
1476 km with a Total Capital Cost of about Rs.48,172 crore have been
sanctioned under Bharatmala Pariyojana. Out of this, about 1230 km of
project length has been completed. The Project sanctioned under
Bharatmala Pariyojana is aimed to de-congest the built up areas including
rural areas and improve the logistic efficiency with enhanced connectivity
and thereby boosting economic development, trade facilitation and
employment generation in the State.(c) Various factors such as issues related to land acquisition, delays in
pre-construction activities, financial difficulties faced by contractors, force
majeure events, and scarcity of construction materials etc. have resulted in
delays and cost overrun in certain projects.
To overcome these challenges and expedite project execution, various
initiatives have been undertaken. These include streamlining and expediting
the land acquisition process through Bhoomi Rashi portal, revamping the
Parivesh Portal to facilitate faster forest and environmental clearances,
enabling online approval of General Arrangement Drawings (GAD) for Road
over Bridges (ROBs) and Road under Bridges (RUB) from the Railways, and
conducting review meetings at various levels with all stakeholders, including
State Governments. The Government is taking all necessary steps for timely
completion of these projects.
