SHRI DURAI VAIKO: Will the Minister of HEAVY INDUSTRIES be pleased to state: (a) whether the Government is aware of the long-standing demand from employees and residents of the BHEL Township in Tiruchirappalli for the modernisation and upgradation of the BHEL Employees Hospital; (b) the present status of infrastructure, staffing, medical equipment and speciality services at the hospital; (c) whether the Government plans to allocate adequate funds for the same; and (d) if so, the expected timeline and scope of upgradation planned for the BHEL Trichy Hospital? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR HEAVY INDUSTRIES (SHRI BHUPATHIRAJU SRINIVASA VARMA) (a): BHEL, Trichy has Hospital Apex Committee consisting of nominated Union representatives and Management representatives, which meets periodically for consideration of various issues relating to the hospital services and improvements required in the hospital. The modernisation & upgradation of facilities including healthcare infrastructure for employees & public welfare, is carried out as per decision and priorities assigned by the Committee. (b): BHEL, Trichy hospital staff strength comprises of both regular and contractual personnel of 54 doctors including visiting consultants, 257 paramedical & others. The hospital has major healthcare departments such as Anesthesiology, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, Radiology, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Pediatrics, etc. which are well equipped with essential medical equipment and infrastructure. Moreover, medical requirements beyond the services available at BHEL Trichy hospital are met through 16 empanelled hospitals for Cardiology, Neurology, Spinal Injuries, Dialysis, Orthopedics, Neo-Natal, Cancer treatment, etc. (c) & (d): Need based annual allocation of funds is made to meet the healthcare facilities of the employees. *********
