Will the Minister of AYUSH be pleased to state:
(a) whether the Government Homoeopathy Medical College and Hospital,
Madurai, presently offers only undergraduate (BHMS) courses not postgraduate (MD
Homoeopathy) and if so, the details thereof;
(b) whether demand for specialised homoeopathic education has rised in Tamil
Nadu and if so, the details thereof;
(c) whether the Government has received proposals from the State Government of
Tamil Nadu for starting PG courses in the said college and if so, the details thereof;
(d) the norms prescribed by the National Commission for Homoeopathy for
sanctioning PG seats; and
(e) the timeline and steps proposed by the Government to establish postgraduate
homoeopathy courses at the Government Homoeopathy College, Madurai to strengthen
public healthcare and academic capacity in this regard?

(a) to (c) The Government Homoeopathy Medical College and Hospital, Madurai
offers only the Undergraduate course, namely Bachelor of Homoeopathic Medicine
and Surgery (BHMS), with intake capacity of 63 seats, including 13 seats under the
Economically Weaker Section (EWS) category. In the State of Tamil Nadu, only 10
Homoeopathic Medical Colleges are offering Undergraduate courses, while 04
Homoeopathic Medical Colleges are offering both Undergraduate and Postgraduate
courses. The list of Homoeopathic Medical Colleges conducting Undergraduate and
Postgraduate courses in the State of Tamil Nadu is placed at Annexure-I. No proposal
has been received from the State of Tamil Nadu for opening of new Post graduate
course for academic year 2026-27.
(d) The provision for making application and scheme for opening of Higher course of
study has been prescribed under sub-section (2) of section (4) and eligibility for
making an application has been prescribed under sub-section (2) of section (5) of
“Establishment of New Homoeopathic Medical Institution (Opening of New or Higher
Course of Study or Training and Increase of Intake Capacity by a Medical Institution),
Regulations – 2024” is available at “https://nch.org.in/upload/MSR-New-
College.pdf”.(e) Public health is a State subject and accordingly establishment of postgraduate
homoeopathy courses comes under purview of respective State/UT Governments
including Tamil Nadu. Establishment of such courses is based upon the proposal from
the State Government and its subsequent consideration in accordance with the
provisions of the National Commission for Homoeopathy Act, 2020 and the
regulations framed thereunder. However, at present, no proposal has been received
from the State Government of Tamil Nadu for establishment of Postgraduate
Homoeopathy courses at the Government Homoeopathy Medical College, Madurai.
