**Policy Summary: Common University Entrance Test (CUET) Implementation and Oversight**
In response to concerns raised regarding bottlenecks in the Common University Entrance Test (CUET), the Ministry of Education addressed Lok Sabha Unstarred Question No. 1235 on July 28, 2025. The CUET, implemented from the academic year 2022-23 in pursuance of the National Education Policy 2020, aims to streamline undergraduate admissions in Central Universities and alleviate burdens on students, universities, and the education system.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducted the CUET UG 2025 examination, in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode, from May 13 to June 4, 2025, for the academic session 2025-26. The examination involved 1,354,699 registered candidates with a total of 5,818,608 subject combinations. The results were declared on July 4, 2025, and admissions are currently in progress.
To ensure the efficient and transparent conduct of national-level examinations, a High Powered Steering Committee, chaired by Dr. K. Radhakrishnan (former Chairman, I.S.R.O. and Chairman, B.O.G. IIT Kanpur), has been constituted to oversee the implementation of reforms within the NTA.

Bottlenecks of CUET

(a) whether the Government has drawn any attention into the bottlenecks in Common University
Entrance Test (CUET) being conducted since 2022 for undergraduate admission in Central
Universities resulting in delayed release of results and throwing academic calendars into
disarray and leaving lakhs of students in prolonged limbo;
(b) if so, the details thereof;
(c) whether the Government has taken any steps to detect the problem and solve the same; and
(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (d): In pursuance of the National Education Policy, 2020, the Common University Entrance
Test (CUET) is being conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission in Central
Universities from the academic year 2022-23 to reduce the burden on students, universities and
the entire education system.
NTA conducted the CUET (UG) 2025 Examination for the academic session 2025-26 in
Computer Based Test (CBT) mode from 13th May to 4th June 2025. The examination was
organized for 13,54,699 candidates who had registered for a total of 58,18,608 subject
combinations. While the scale of the CUET (UG) examination was extensive, the entire process
was carried out successfully. The results for CUET (UG) 2025 were declared by NTA on 4th July
2025 and admissions on the basis of the same are underway.
A High Powered Steering Committee, chaired by Dr. K. Radhakrishnan, former Chairman,
I.S.R.O. and Chairman, B.O.G. IIT Kanpur, is already constituted to oversee the implementation
of reforms in the conduct of national-level examinations by the NTA.
