Willthe Minister of HEALTH AND FAMILYWELFAREbe pleasedtostate:
(a) whether the Government is aware of the rising numberof cancercases inOdisha, particularly
in the western districts such as Bargarh, Sambalpur and Balangir, where many patients are
compelled to travel outside the State for treatment, if so, the details thereof, State-wise and
district-wise;
(b) whether the cancer hospital at Bargarh, constructed at a cost of about 138 crore, has been
made fullyfunctional, if so, the detailsthereofandif not,the reasons therefor;
(c) whether all sanctioned posts of doctors, technicians and staff have been filled, if so, the
detailsthereofandif not, the steps beingtakentofill the vacancies;
(d) whether the Government proposes to operationalize advanced facilities such as Positron
Emission Tomography–Computed Tomography (PET-CT), radiation therapy and Intensive Care
Unit (ICU) services at the hospital, if so,the detailsthereof; and
(e) the timeline by which the Bargarh Cancer Hospital is expected tobecome fullyoperational to
benefitcancerpatients of western Odisha underschemessuch asPM-JAY?
ANSWER

(SHRIPRATAPRAOJADHAV)
(a) As per information received from State of Odisha, district-wise cancer cases in reported
through Hospital Based CancerRegistry (HBCR) andPopulation Based CancerRegistry (PBCR)
isattachedat Annexure.
(b) to (e) The State Government of Odisha has informed that the construction of the Cancer
Hospital at District Hospital, Bargarh, has been completed and the facility has been handed over
to the District Hospital. Outpatient Department (OPD) services for cancer screening, counselling
and follow-up have been made operational. Diagnostic services such as biopsies, histopathology
and molecular diagnosis are available alongwith imaging facilities including CT Scan,USG and
X-Ray. An inpatient department with 20 beds has also been made operational for cancer
chemotherapy services, which is being managed by trained Medical Officers and Nursing
Officers. Trained ENT Specialists, Obstetrics & Gynaecology Specialists, Surgeons and
Anaesthesiologists have been appointed in the hospital for cancer screening, treatment and
follow-up care.
Further, the Department of Health and Family Welfare Implements Strengthening of Tertiary
Care Cancer Facilities Scheme. Under this scheme, 19 State Cancer Institutes (SCI) and 20
Tertiary Care Cancer Centres (TCCC) have been approved across the country including one SCI
at Acharya Harihar Regional Cancer Centre, Cuttack which is functional and providing cancer
