GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF EDUCATION DEPARTMENT OF HIGHER EDUCATION RAJYA SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 1313 ANSWERED ON 11.02.2026 Central technical education schemes in Jammu and Kashmir 1313 Shri Sat Paul Sharma: Will the Minister of Education be pleased to state: (a) the details of the total allocation and actual expenditure under the Multidisciplinary Education and Research Improvement in Technical Education (MERITE) project in Jammu and Kashmir, and; (b) whether the Government of Jammu and Kashmir has submitted any additional proposal or sought additional financial allocation under MERITE; and (c) if so, the details thereof? ANSWER MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION (DR. SUKANTA MAJUMDAR) (a) to (c): In order to improve the quality, equity and institutional governance in Technical Education, the MERITE (Multidisciplinary Education and Research Improvement in Technical Education) scheme has been approved with a total outlay of Rs. 4200 crores for a period of five years. All states/UTs including Jammu and Kashmir are covered under this scheme. Allocation of funds to a State/UT depends upon the number of institutions selected from that State/UT. *****
