Central technical education schemes in Jammu and Kashmir
1313 Shri Sat Paul Sharma:
Will the Minister of Education be pleased to state:
(a) the details of the total allocation and actual expenditure under the Multidisciplinary
Education and Research Improvement in Technical Education (MERITE) project in Jammu
and Kashmir, and;
(b) whether the Government of Jammu and Kashmir has submitted any additional proposal or
sought additional financial allocation under MERITE; and
(c) if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (c): In order to improve the quality, equity and institutional governance in Technical
Education, the MERITE (Multidisciplinary Education and Research Improvement in
Technical Education) scheme has been approved with a total outlay of Rs. 4200 crores for a
period of five years. All states/UTs including Jammu and Kashmir are covered under this
scheme. Allocation of funds to a State/UT depends upon the number of institutions selected
from that State/UT.
