COMPENSATION TO VICTIMS

Will the Minister of CIVIL AVIATION
be pleased to state:-
(a) the status of compensation provided to the victims of the Air India Express
crashes at Mangaluru in 2010 and Kozhikode in 2020 along with the total
number of claims compensated, rejected and pending and the individual
amount awarded in each case;
(b) whether the compensation was determined in accordance with the
Montreal Convention protocol or any other statutory norms and if so, the
details thereof; and
(c) if not, the reasons for deviation along with the steps taken to ensure
uniform and fair compensation to all victims' families?

(a) & (b): Air India Express has informed that in both the Mangaluru (2010)
and Kozhikode (2020) accidents, compensation had been paid to the families
of the deceased and injured passengers as determined in accordance with the
provisions of the Montreal Convention. The compensation paid has been
accepted as full and final payments by the claimants. However, some of the
claimants have approached the Hon'ble Court for enhanced compensation,
which is presently sub-judice.
