(a) whether the Government is considering construction of a
permanent concrete bridge at the Katarniaghat region on the India-
Nepal border in Bahraich district of Uttar Pradesh where people from
Nepal cross daily by boat to reach Bichhia for getting essential goods
and if so, the details of the current status and estimated cost of this
project thereof; and
(b) if not, whether the Government intends to consider it in the near
future keeping in view the continuous public demand and key aspects
such as India-Nepal trade, tourism and border security, if so, the
details thereof?

(a) to (b) The Government in the Ministry of Road Transport and
Highways is responsible for development and maintenance of NationalHighways (NHs). Development and maintenance of National Highways
(NHs), including NHs in the State of Uttar Pradesh, is a continuous
process. Works on NHs are accordingly taken up depending upon inter-
se priority, traffic density and synergy with PM Gati Shakti framework
to keep the NHs in traffic worthy conditions.
The road stretch from Kudwa to Katarniaghat via Mihinpurwa,
Motipur, Nishangarh and Bichhia in a length of about 47.25 km has
been notified as NH-730H; out of this, about 45.89 km is presently
under Defect Liability Period and balance length of about 1.36 km is
under Short Term Maintenance Contract. There is no proposal for
extending NH-730H beyond Katarniaghat.
