GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF TOURISM LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO.2430 ANSWERED ON 15.12.2025 CONNECTIVITY FOR TOURIST DESTINATIONS UNDER SDS 2.0 2430.SHRI NAVEEN JINDAL: Will the Minister of TOURISM be pleased to state: (a) the details of the specific plans and timelines for improving last-mile connectivity (roads, rail, and air) to the tourist destinations under the Swadesh Darshan (SD)2.0 scheme; (b) the status of developing world-class public amenities such as clean sanitation facilities, drinking water, standardized signage accessibility and provisions for the disabled at existing heritage and pilgrimage sites; (c) the details of the steps taken/being taken by the Government to establish Police Booths and deploy a dedicated "Tourism Police" force at major tourist sites across all States/UTs to ensure the safety and security of both domestic and foreign visitors; and (d) the details of the progress made on developing infrastructure, other facilities and services at the tourist destinations under the Swadesh Darshan 2.0 scheme to enhance connectivity and attract more footfalls given the potential of culture and heritage as well as spiritual tourism? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF TOURISM (SHRI GAJENDRA SINGH SHEKHAWAT) (a) to (d): Development and promotion of tourism destinations and products including safety and security of tourists is primarily undertaken by the concerned State Governments (SGs)/Union Territory Administrations (UTAs). However, the Ministry of Tourism through its central sector schemes of ‘Swadesh Darshan 2.0 (SD2.0)’ and ‘Challenge Based DestinationDevelopment (CBDD)’, a sub-scheme of Swadesh Darshan 2.0 scheme, complements the efforts of tourism infrastructure development and experiences in the country by extending financial assistance to the SGs/UTAs, on receipt of the project proposals from them in synergy with the scheme guidelines, Government instructions, availability of funds etc. Accordingly, the Ministry of Tourism has sanctioned 53 projects under SD2.0 and 36 projects under CBDD for implementation by the concerned SG/UTA, which are related to variety of themes including culture, heritage, spiritual tourism etc. The components covered under the sanctioned projects vary as per the need of the project and include those related to sanitation facilities, signages, last mile connectivity, provisions for differently abled, information kiosks, site improvements, parking etc. The details of the projects sanctioned under SD2.0 and CBDD schemes in the country is annexed. The Ministry of Tourism recognizes the importance of safety and security of tourists and has been continuously taking up the matter with all the State Governments and Union Territory (UT) Administrations for setting up of dedicated Tourist Police to strengthen on-ground safety mechanism for tourists.
