Will the Minister of CULTURE be pleased to state:
(a) whether the Government has identified any heritage monuments in Warangal, Telangana
for conservation and development under Central schemes such as the National Mission on
Monuments and Antiquities (NMMA) or other heritage programmes;
(b) if so, the project-wise details, including funds sanctioned and released during the last three
years; and
(c) the timeline for completion and the steps taken to ensure protection from encroachment
and structural deterioration?

(a) There are 8 nos. of centrally protected monuments/sites in Telengana State including 2
& monuments/sites in Warangal under the jurisdiction of Archaeological Survey of India
(b) (ASI). ASI takes up conservation and preservation works of these monuments/sites as per
the need and availability of resources subject to the National Policy for Conservation and
it is a continuous process. All these monuments/sites are in a good state of preservation.
The details of funds allocated and expenditure incurred for conservation and preservation
of these monuments/sites in the last three years are given as under:-

Under the Heritage City Development and Augmentation Yojana (HRIDAY) Scheme
launched by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs; Warangal City, District:
Warangal was promoted as a HERITAGE CITY, through which work at two centrally
protected monuments in Warangal was taken up, viz., (i) Thousand Pillar Temple (2018)
– Parking area was provided with tiles and area illumination was carried out and (ii)
Warangal Fort (2022) – Facade Illumination was provided to the North Gate, Kush
Mahal, the Swayambhu Temple Complex and the Kirti Thoran through Kakatiya Urban
Development Authority (KUDA).The Ministry of Tourism, Government of India had sanctioned Rs.6199.65 Lakhs
under PRASHAD scheme for Development of Pilgrimage and Heritage Tourism
Infrastructure at Rudreshwar (Ramappa) Temple, Mulugu, Telangana..
However, There is no specific scheme under National Mission on Monuments and
Antiquities (NMMA) that has been proposed for the monuments of Warangal.
(c) In order to contain the encroachments and remove them, the Superintending
Archaeologist is authorised to issue show cause notices, followed by a direction to the
District Collector/Magistrate to remove such encroachment under the provision of the
Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1958 and Rules, 1959
framed thereunder. Assistance in containing and removing encroachments is also sought
from the respective State Government/Police authorities from time to time. Further, in
addition to the regular watch and ward staff and private security personnel have also been
deployed for the safety and security of selected monuments/sites. Besides regular
inspection is carried out to assess conservation requirement and measures are taken
accordingly.
