Will the Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs be pleased to state:
(a) whether the Government has constructed Sewage Treatment Plants in
Tamil Nadu, particularly in Vellore Lok Sabha Constituency under the
Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) and
if so, the details thereof;
(b) whether the Government has provided any financial support to city
corporations and municipal bodies in Tamil Nadu for the establishment
of Sewage Treatment Plants under AMRUT and if so, the details
thereof; and
(c) the steps taken by the Government to provide financial support to
industrial units for commissioning Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD)
systems and Common Effluent Treatment Plants in Tamil Nadu,
particularly in Vellore Lok Sabha Constituency?

(a) to (c): Sanitation is State subject and setting up and management of
Sewerage Treatment Plants (STPs) is the responsibility of the State
Governments and concerned Urban Local Bodies (ULBs)/ Urban
Development Authorities. Government of India supplements the efforts of
the States through schematic interventions/ advisories. It provides financial
and technical support to the States through various schemes/ Missions such
as Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) and
AMRUT 2.0.
Under AMRUT, States/ Union Territories (UTs) are empowered to
select, appraise, prioritise and implement the projects.
As reported by the State on AMRUT portal, 18 sewerage and septage
management projects worth ₹5,670.8 crore have been grounded under
AMRUT which includes augmentation of 9 STPs of 500 Million Litre per Day
(MLD) capacity. The State has not taken Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD)
systems/ Common Effluent Treatment Plants (CETPs) under AMRUT.
