Parliament Question: Cooperative Sugar Mill

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF COOPERATION LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 1539 TO BE ANSWERED ON 28th JULY, 2026 Cooperative Sugar Mill 1539. Shri Darshan Singh Choudhary: Will the Minister of COOPERATION (सहकारिता मंत्री) be pleased to state: (a) whether the Government is aware that there is not single a cooperative sugar mill in Tendukheda Assembly constituency of Narsinghpur district in Madhya Pradesh despite having ample potential for sugarcane cultivation; (b) whether the Government has received any proposal for the setting up of a cooperative sugar mill in the said area or any such proposal is under consideration; (c) whether the Government is contemplating for a feasibility study or providing financial assistance, technical support or any other necessary assistance for the setting up of a cooperative sugar mill in the Tendukheda Assembly Constituency; (d) If so, the details of the proposed action plan, estimated cost, financial assistance, timeline and the likely benefits to farmer therefrom; and (e) If not, the reasons therefor? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF COOPERATION (सहकारिता मंत्री) (SHRI AMIT SHAH) (a) Yes. As per the information received from Government of Madhya Pradesh, there is no cooperative sugar mills in Tendukheda Assembly constituency of Narsinghpur district in Madhya Pradesh. At present, eight private sugar mills are operational in Narsinghpur district, out of which two sugar mills are functioning in the Tendukheda Assembly Constituency. As per the information received from Department of Food and Public Distribution, sugar industry was deleted from list of industries required compulsory licensing, vide press note dated 31.08.1998. (c to e) Ministry of Cooperation has taken up steps to revive co-operative sugar mills in the country. National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC), a statutory organization under the administrative control of Ministry of Cooperation provides financial assistance for the revival and modernization of cooperative sugar mills either directly to the Cooperative Sugar Mills (CSMs) or through the State Government for passing on the same to CSMs, with due-diligence and subject to the viability of the project as per NCDC guidelines. ***** Page 2 of 2
