This document summarizes the Indian Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs' response to Lok Sabha Unstarred Question No. 4805 regarding the coverage of rail routes under the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridors for Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR).
The National Capital Region Planning Board (NCRPB) developed a Functional Plan on Transport for NCR-2032, which identified eight RRTS corridors to enhance rail connectivity within the NCR. These corridors are: (i) Delhi-Gurugram-Rewari-Alwar, (ii) Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut, (iii) Delhi-Sonipat-Panipat, (iv) Delhi-Faridabad-Ballabhgarh-Palwal, (v) Delhi-Bahadurgarh-Rohtak, (vi) Delhi-Shahdara-Baraut, (vii) Ghaziabad-Khurja, and (viii) Ghaziabad-Hapur.
A Task Force, previously appointed by the Planning Commission of India (now NITI Aayog), prioritized the implementation of three RRTS corridors: Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut, Delhi-Gurugram-Alwar, and Delhi-Panipat.
As of August 21, 2025, the Central Government had sanctioned the 82.15 Km Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor in March 2019, with 55 Km of this corridor currently operational.
The government does not propose to extend the Sarai Kale Khan-Meerut RRTS corridor to Muzaffarnagar in the second phase or to Saharanpur-Haridwar in the third phase. Therefore, further details regarding extensions do not arise.
