Will the Minister of SOCIAL JUSTICE AND EMPOWERMENT be pleased to state:
(a) whether the Government has assessed the reasons for the rising number of crimes against SC
and ST communities in the country; and
(b) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) & (b): National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) compiles and publishes statistical data on
crimes in its publication ‘Crime in India’. The published reports are available till the year 2022.
As per the NCRB data, during 2022, a total of 57,582 and 10,064 cases have been registered
under crime against Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs) respectively. Growing
awareness, wider publicity and Capacity Building of Police Personnel have led to better
reporting of crimes against Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
