ANSWER
MINISTER OF RAILWAYS, INFORMATION & BROADCASTING AND
ELECTRONICS & INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
(SHRI ASHWINI VAISHNAW)
(a) to (d) The issue pertaining to the increase in frequency of tri-weekly
service of 20681/20682 Tambaram–Sengottai Silambu Express has been
examined.
At present, Tambaram - Sengottai sector is served by the 4 pairs of train
services as under:
SN Train No. and Name
1 12661/12662 Chennai Egmore - Sengottai Express (daily)
2 16101/16102 Tambaram - Kollam Express (daily)
3 20681/20682 Tambaram - Sengottai Silambu Express (Tri-weekly)
§ Page 1 of 34 20683/20684 Tambaram - Sengottai Express (Tri-weekly)
These also include the daily services of 12661/12662 Chennai Egmore -
Sengottai Express and 16101/16102 Tambaram - Kollam Express which are
catering to the needs of passengers of the said sector.
Further, from the Tambaram end, 20681 Tambaram–Sengottai Silambu
Express (via Villupuram - Vriddhachalam - Tiruchchirappalli - Karaikkudi)
and 20683 Tambaram–Sengottai Express (via Villupuram - Mayiladuturai -
Thiruvarur - Karaikkudi) are together providing services on 6 days of a week
on end-to end basis.
Similarly, in the return direction i.e. from the Sengottai end, 20682 Sengottai-
Tambaram Silambu Express (via Villupuram - Vriddhachalam -
Tiruchchirappalli - Karaikkudi) and 20684 Sengottai-Tambaram Express (via
Villupuram - Mayiladuturai - Thiruvarur - Karaikkudi) are together providing
services on 6 days of a week on end-to end basis, as under:
Train no. and Name Days of operation from Tambaram
20681 Tambaram–Sengottai Express Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays
20683 Tambaram–Sengottai Express Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays
Train no. and Name Days of operation from Sengottai
20682 Sengottai-Tambaram Express Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays
20684 Sengottai-Tambaram Express Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays
Besides, increase in frequency of train services, which is an on-going
process, depends on various factors which include-
Capacity of that section.
Availability of path.

Availability of matching infrastructure for rolling stock.
Maintenance requirement of railway tracks and other assets.
