DELHI‑AMRITSAR‑KATRA EXPRESSWAY PROJECT
2191. SHRI SAT PAUL SHARMA:
Will the Minister of ROAD TRANSPORT AND HIGHWAYS be pleased to state:-
(a) the current status of the Delhi‑Katra‑Amritsar Expressway project, including the progress made so
far and the expected completion date;
(b) whether Government has conducted any study on the potential economic and social impact of the
expressway on the regions it will pass through; and
(c) if so, the details thereof?

(a) The details are enclosed as Annexure.
(b) and (c) The proposed Delhi-Katra-Amritsar Expressway is envisaged to provide
efficient connectivity between major origin-destination points. The project is expected to significantly
reduce travel distance and time, resulting in savings in vehicle operating costs and improved travel
experience. It will also help de-congest the existing National Highways and reduce traffic bottlenecks.
The Expressway is expected to reduce the distance between Delhi and Amritsar/Katra by about
40 km and enable travel from Delhi to Amritsar in about 5 hours and Delhi to Katra in about 7 hours.
The Expressway Connects major cities including Rohtak and Jind in Haryana; Sangrur,
Malerkotla, Patiala, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Kapurthala and Gurdaspur in Punjab; and Kathua and Jammu
in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir. Apart from providing improved connectivity to the
religious destinations of Amritsar and Katra, the project will also enhance industrial connectivity in
Punjab and Haryana and promote tourism in Jammu & Kashmir.
Further, development of the Expressway is expected to improve infrastructure in the region and
contribute to overall economic development.ANNEXURE
