Parliament Question: Development of a Temple Tourism Circuit for Srisailam

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF TOURISM LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO.3613 ANSWERED ON 10.08.2026 DEVELOPMENT OF A TEMPLE TOURISM CIRCUIT FOR SRISAILAM 3613. DR. BYREDDY SHABARI: Will the Minister of TOURISM be pleased to state: (a) whether the Government has received any proposal from the State Government of Andhra Pradesh or any other agency for the development of a temple tourism circuit including Srisailam during the last five years, if so, the details and current status thereof; (b) whether any master plan or Detailed Project Report (DPR) has been prepared or submitted for the development of Srisailam and surrounding temple destinations and if so, the present status thereof; (c) the details of measures taken or proposed to improve connectivity, tourist amenities, heritage conservation, safety and other tourism infrastructure in and around Srisailam during the last five years; (d) the details of Central assistance sanctioned, released and utilised for tourism infrastructure in Srisailam during the last five years, scheme and year-wise; and (e) whether the Government proposes to include Srisailam under any existing or proposed temple/spiritual tourism circuit and if so, the details along with timeline thereof? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF TOURISM (SHRI GAJENDRA SINGH SHEKHAWAT) (a) to (e): The development and promotion of tourist destinations and tourism products, is primarily undertaken by the respective State Governments and Union Territory (UT) Administrations. However, the Ministry of Tourism, under its various schemes such as Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual, Heritage Augmentation Drive (PRASHAD),Swadesh Darshan (SD), Swadesh Darshan 2.0 (SD2.0), Challenge Based Destination Development (CBDD) supplements the efforts of the States/UTs by providing financial assistance for the development of tourism related infrastructure and experiences across the country, including in the State of Andhra Pradesh. Receiving proposals from the State Governments and Union Territory Administrations for financial assistance for tourism projects is a continuous process. The proposals received are examined with reference to the prescribed guidelines and financial assistance is extended for such projects subject to fulfilment of the stipulated conditions and availability of funds. The Ministry has sanctioned a project, namely, ‘Development of Srisailam Temple’, at a cost of Rs.43.08 Crore under its PRASHAD Scheme. The entire amount of Rs.43.08 Crore has been released and utilized. The said project stands completed. The major components developed under the said project includes Illumination, Tourist Amenity Centre, Changing Rooms, Parking, Ramp, Toilet Complexes, Drinking Water Facility and Road Improvement Works etc. *****
