GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF CULTURE LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO.3829 TO BE ANSWERED ON 16.03.2026 DEVELOPMENT OF ADICHANALLUR ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE 3829. SHRI ESWARASAMY K: Will the Minister of CULTURE be pleased to state: (a) the details of the sites approved/being approved under the Budget 2026 for development of archaeological sites along with the criteria adopted for their selection and the fund allocated thereon, site-wise; (b) whether the Adichanallur archaeological site in Tamil Nadu has been included under the said scheme and if so, the details thereof; (c) the details of the total funds allocated, sanctioned and released for the development and conservation of the said site including fossil and related archaeological findings, during the last five years, year-wise; (d) the details of the fund actually utilised so far and the status of ongoing works at the site; and (e) the details of the specific conservation, protection and preservation measures undertaken by the Government to safeguard the said site from damage, encroachment and environmental degradation? ANSWER MINISTER OF CULTURE AND TOURISM (SHRI GAJENDRA SINGH SHEKHAWAT) (a) There are total 3686 centrally protected monuments/sites under the care and maintenance of & Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) including 412 centrally protected monument/sites in (b) Tamil Nadu State. In the Union Budget 2026-27, the Hon’ble Finance Minister has announced the development of 15 archaeological sites across the country under Development of selected Excavation Sites and Heritage Complexes (DESH) Scheme including Adichanallur archaeological site in the state of Tamil Nadu under the jurisdiction of Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).(c) The details of total funds allocated, sanctioned and released for the development and & conservation of Adichanallur archaeological site including fossil and related (d) archaeological findings, during the last five years are given as under:- (Amount in Rs.) Fencing at Proposed Museum Building. 2. Protective shelter for the Excavated site. (e) In order to safeguard the site from damages, encroachment and environmental degradation, the protective shelters for the excavated trenches are provided. Also regular watch and ward staff is also deployed to prevent damage and encroachment. ------
