**Summary:**
This document summarizes the response to Lok Sabha Starred Question No. 134, raised by Shri Chandra Prakash Choudhary and Shri Sanatan Pandey, MPs, on July 29, 2025, regarding the development of the agriculture sector through the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PMKISAN) scheme. The question inquired whether the government proposed to expand the scope of PMKISAN to further develop agriculture-related sectors, and if so, the steps taken in this regard.
The Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, stated that PMKISAN, a central sector scheme launched in February 2019, aims to supplement the financial needs of farmers with cultivable landholding by providing Rs 6,000 per year, disbursed in three equal installments via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to Aadhaar-seeded bank accounts. As of July 16, 2025, over Rs 3.69 lakh crore has been disbursed to farmers in 19 installments since the scheme's inception. The response clarifies that, currently, there is no proposal under consideration to extend the scope of the PMKISAN scheme. The scheme utilizes a farmer-centric digital infrastructure to ensure transparent registration and verification of beneficiaries, delivering benefits directly to eligible farmers without intermediaries.
