Parliament Question: Development of Airports in Uttar Pradesh

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF CIVIL AVIATION LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. : 3177 ( TO BE ANSWERED ON THE 6th August 2026 ) DEVELOPMENT OF AIRPORTS IN UTTAR PRADESH 3177. SHRI RAJEEV RAI Will the Minister of CIVIL AVIATION be pleased to state:- (a) the details and the number of airports including greenfield airports established in Uttar Pradesh since 2014, airport-wise; (b) the details of expenditure incurred by the Government on each such airport, project-wise; (c) the number of such airports presently handling scheduled commercial passenger flights, airport-wise; (d) whether the Government is aware that several newly inaugurated airports including Azamgarh Airport are presently not handling regular commercial flights and if so, the details thereof along with the reasons therefor; and (e) the steps taken by the Government to restore commercial operations at such airports and the time by which each such airport is expected to become fully operational? ANSWER Minister of State in the Ministry of CIVIL AVIATION (Shri Murlidhar Mohol) (a) & (b): Since 2014, two Greenfield Airports i.e. Noida (Jewar) at a cost of approximately Rs. 11764 crore and Kushinagar at a cost of Rs. 448 crore have been established in Uttar Pradesh. Additionally, under the UDAN scheme, eleven airports namely Agra ( Rs. 8 crore), Prayagraj (Rs. 161 crore), Bareilly (Rs. 104 crore), Kanpur (Rs. 135 crore) Aligarh (Rs. 32 crore), Chitrakoot (Rs. 33 crore), Moradabad (Rs. 30 crore), Azamgarh (Rs. 30 crore), Shravasti (Rs. 33 crore), Hindon (Rs. 47 crore) and Ayodhaya (Rs. 347 crore) have been operationalized in Uttar Pradesh. Noida (Jewar) Airport has been developed by the Government of Uttar Pradesh under Public Private Partnership mode. (c) to (e): With the repeal of the Air Corporations Act in March 1994, the Indian domestic aviation was deregulated. It is upto the airline operators to introduce air services to / from any airport in the country depending on their operational & commercial viability. At present, scheduled commercial flight operations at 6 airports in Uttar Pradesh are temporarily suspended due to airline-related reasons. These airports are Kushinagar, Aligarh, Azamgarh, Chitrakoot, Shravasti & Moradabad.Under the next phase of UDAN Scheme launched on 04.07.2026, the above airports are eligible for bidding in the "Unserved Airports" category. If any airline submits a valid bid for operation of RCS flights on routes connecting these airports, it will be considered as per the Scheme provisions. ******
