Parliament Question: Development of Beypore and Kollam Ports

Will the Minister of PORTS, SHIPPING AND WATERWAYS be pleased to state: प(cid:517)न,पोत प(cid:303)रवहन और जलमाग(cid:330) मं(cid:361)ी

(a) whether the Union Government has held consultations with the Government of Kerala regarding the development of Beypore and Kollam Ports as satellite/feeder ports of International Transhipment Deepwater Port;

(b) if so, the outcomes of such consultations;

(c) whether the Government has assessed the potential role of Beypore Port in handling feeder cargo, coastal shipping and transhipment support for Vizhinjam Port; and

(a) to (d) A statement is laid on the Table of the House.STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (d) OFLOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. *213 FOR ANSWER ON 13.02.2026, RAISED BY SHRI M K RAGHAVAN REGARDING “DEVELOPMENT OF BEYPORE AND KOLLAM PORTS”

(a) to (d) The Ports other than Major Ports (OTMPs) are under the administrative control of the respective State Government/ Union Territory. As per information furnished by the Government of Kerala no discussions have taken place so far between the Union Government and the Government of Kerala regarding the development of Beypore and Kollam Ports as satellite/ feeder ports. Further, it has been informed that upon the completion of the second phase of the Vizhinjam International Seaport, the OTMPs in Kerala including Beypore, are expected to witness an increase in coastal cargo movement. No specific study has been undertaken by the State Government regarding estimated cargo volumes or likely economic benefits in this regard.
