This is an answer to Lok Sabha Unstarred Question No. 2155 regarding the development of a cargo airport in Bhopal, to be answered on February 12, 2026. Shri Alok Sharma asked whether the government has prepared an action plan for the construction of new cargo airports in the country including Bhopal.
The Minister of State in the Ministry of Civil Aviation (Shri Murlidhar Mohol) stated that the development of cargo facilities depends on various factors such as airport development progress, increase in scheduled operations, handling capacity, growth in domestic cargo volumes and demand from airlines. The airlines initiate cargo operations based on their internal assessment of cargo potential, handling capabilities and overall commercial viability of operating from any airport. AAI Cargo Logistics and Allied Services Company Limited (AAICLAS) has established a domestic air cargo facility along with a cold storage facility at Bhopal Airport.

(a) whether the Government has prepared any action plan for construction of new cargo

(b) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor; and
(c) whether any action has been taken regarding the construction of a cargo airport in
Bhopal and if so, the details thereof?
