pleased to state:
(a) whether the Government is implementing the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana
(PMMSY) to develop the fisheries sector in the country, especially in Madhya Pradesh;
(b) whether the Government has extended the benefits of PMMSY to fishermen and fisheries
cooperatives in the districts of Katni, Panna and Khajuraho in Madhya Pradesh;
(c) if so, the details thereof and the measures taken by the Government to make the scheme
more effective, if not, the reasons therefor; and
(d) the steps being taken by the Government in this regard?

(a): The Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying.
Government of India is implementing a flagship scheme on Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada
Yojana (PMMSY) - A scheme to bring about Blue Revolution through sustainable and
responsible development of fisheries sector in India with a total investment of Rs.20,050
crore for a period of 5 years with effect from the financial year 2020-21 for development of
fisheries in all States/Union Territories including Madhya Pradesh. Further, the Department
under the PMMSY has accorded approval to the various fisheries developmental proposals of
Government of Madhya Pradesh at a total outlay of Rs. 807.45 crore with central liability of
Rs. 261.45 crore and an amount of Rs.237.95 crore has been released for development of
Fisheries in the State.
(b) to (d): As reported by the Government of Madhya Pradesh, the benefit of PMMSY is
extended to fishermen and members of fisheries cooperatives in all districts of the State
including districts namely Katni ,Panna, & Khajuraho. The details of the progress achieved
under PMMSY in these districts are at Annexure.
The PMMSY supports various interventions /activities for holistic development of fisheries
including quality fish and seed production, expansion, diversification and intensification of
fresh water aquaculture, infusion of technology such as RAS, Biofloc, Reservoir cage culture
, development of ornamental and recreational fisheries, training and capacity building,
creation of post-harvest and cold chain development, welfare of fishers through Nutritional
and livelihood support for socio-economically backward active traditional fisher’s families
for conservation of fisheries resources during fishing ban/lean period, group accident
insurance scheme , support to fisheries co-operative etc.As such, the concerted efforts of the
Governments through the reforms, policies and schemes, and efforts of fishers, fish farmers
and other stakeholders during last five years have contributed significantly in overall growth
of the fisheries and aquaculture sector.
