Parliament Question: Development of Heavy Industrial Ecosystem in Punjab

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF HEAVY INDUSTRIES LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 457 ANSWERED ON 21.07.2026 DEVELOPMENT OF HEAVY INDUSTRIAL ECOSYSTEM IN PUNJAB 457. SHRI CHARANJIT SINGH CHANNI: Will the Minister of HEAVY INDUSTRIES be pleased to state: (a) whether the State of Punjab has been identified as a potential destination for auto- component, defence manufacturing and other heavy industries; (b) if so, the details of proposals received and approved in this regard during the last three years; (c) whether any industrial corridors or clusters are proposed to be established in the State and if so, the details thereof; and (d) the details regarding expected employment generation from such initiatives? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR HEAVY INDUSTRIES (SHRI BHUPATHIRAJU SRINIVASA VARMA) (a) & (b): In order to encourage the technology development and to augment the manufacturing infrastructure in the Capital Goods Sector, MHI has notified Scheme on Enhancement of Competitiveness in the Indian Capital Goods Sector- Phase-II. This is a pan India demand driven Scheme. Under Phase-II of the Scheme, a project for the Augmentation of the existing Testing and Certification Facility at the Institute for Auto Parts and Hand Tools Technology (IAHT), Ludhiana has been sanctioned to strengthen the existing testing and certification infrastructure. (c): As informed by Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, the Government of India has approved development of Integrated Manufacturing Cluster (IMC) at Rajpura-Patiala in State of Punjab admeasuring 1,099 acres under the Amritsar–Kolkata Industrial Corridor (AKIC) in August, 2024. Details of the project are as below:  Project Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), NICDC Punjab Industrial Corridor Development Corporation Limited, was incorporated on 30th December, 2022.  Programme Manager for New Cities (PMNC), and Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) Contractor have been appointed by SPV.  Key focus sectors identified are electronics, food & beverages, fabricated metal products, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, textiles & apparels, rubber & plastic products, machinery & equipment, and logistics. (d): Detailed Project Report (DPR) of Integrated Manufacturing Cluster (IMC) at Rajpura- Patiala under the Amritsar–Kolkata Industrial Corridor (AKIC) contains employment generation potential of approximately 64,200 jobs. *****
