(a) the current status of infrastructure development at IIIT Kalyani including the timeline for
completion of its permanent campus and steps taken to address infrastructure delays;
(b) whether the institute is facing shortage of permanent faculty and if so, the details thereof
and the measures taken/to be taken by the Government to recruit qualified faculty to
improve teaching and research quality;
(c) the number of research projects and patents filed by IIIT Kalyani during the last five years
and the steps being taken to enhance research output and commercialization of innovations;
(d) the initiatives being undertaken to strengthen industry collaborations, improve placement
opportunities and integrate students into the technology sector;
(e) whether the Government is aware of administrative delays affecting faculty recruitment,
fund allocation and campus development and if so, the corrective measures taken/being
taken in this regard; and
(f) the status of student grievances regarding hostel facilities, extra curricular opportunities
and overall student experience and the steps being taken to address these concerns?

“DEVELOPMENT OF IIIT KALYANI” RAISED BY SHRI JAGANNATH SARKAR:
(a) to (f): IIIT Kalyani is one of the twenty Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs)
established by the Government of India in the Public-Private Partnership mode. The State
Government has provided 34.36 acres of land till date for the construction of its permanent
campus. The construction is at an advance stage of completion with the physical progress
being around 98%. Initial delays were caused by disruptions during the pandemic, affecting
the labour availability and supply chains.
Currently, the institute has 21 faculty members, with 13 being regular faculty, 2 Contractual,
1 Visiting Professor and 5 Guest Faculty. In order to enhance the teaching and learning
processes in the institute, 28 additional faculty positions have been created and recruitment to
these positions has been initiated.
The faculty and students are pursuing cutting-edge research in the frontier areas of science
and technology and presently working on eleven sponsored research projects. The faculty
members have submitted five patent applications, out of which one has already been granted.
In the last five years, the institute has published 110 papers in peer-reviewed journals. The
institute provides a Cumulative Professional Development Allowance (CPDA) of Rs.3 lakhs
per faculty member over a three-year period to support research-related activities and
acquiring professional resources.
IIIT Kalyani has signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with industries and other
academic institutions to strengthen joint research collaborations, internships, etc., and provide
industry exposure to its students. The institute also has a dedicated Training and Placement
Cell and an Innovation and Incubation Cell (IIC) to guide students about relevant industry
opportunities, and support student-led start-ups, respectively.
The students’ team from IIIT Kalyani won the Smart India Hackathon 2022 and 2019 under
different categories. They have also won accolades and top positions in various coding and
hackathons events organised by other institutions. To ensure vibrancy on campus and a
conducive learning environment, the institute organises cultural events like, Dance Showcase,
Literature Week, Musical Gameshow, Script Writing, Women’s Day Celebration, etc., and
technical events such as, Robotics Competition, Competitive Programming, Robo War
Competition, etc.
Every batch of students has been assigned faculty members who act as Batch Mentors, who
acts the first point of contact for students with the administration regarding their concerns
about academic or other related activities within the institute. A Grievance Redressal Cell has
also been established in the institute and comprises several members, including
representatives from the faculty.
