Development of Kolhapur Divisional Sports Complex
2345. Shri Shahu Shahaji Chhatrapati:
Will the Minister of YOUTH AFFAIRS AND SPORTS be pleased to state:
(a) whether the Government is aware that the Chhatrapati Sambhaji
Maharaj Divisional Sports Complex at Shenda Park, Kolhapur — serving
five districts including Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara, Ratnagiri and
Sindhudurg remains substantially incomplete more than a decade after
its inauguration in 2014, with the swimming pool non-functional for
twelve years and athletics, football, wrestling and indoor sports facilities
yet to meet national standards;
(b) the details of funds released and utilised for the said complex against
the estimated project cost of Rs. 175 crore and the reasons for
prolonged delay in completion;
(c) whether a time-bound action plan has been prepared for completing
all pending facilities; and
(d) the details of steps taken/being taken to develop the said complex
equal to national and international standards to enable athletes from the
Kolhapur division to compete at Olympic, Asian Games and National
Games levels?

(a) to (d) ‘Sports’ being a State subject, the responsibility of development
of sports, including improvement and upgradation of sports complex,
rests primarily with the State/Union Territory Governments. The Union
Government supplements their efforts by bridging critical gaps. The

under the jurisdiction of respective State/Union Territory Governments,
are not maintained in this Ministry.
