GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF CIVIL AVIATION LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. : 3186 ( TO BE ANSWERED ON THE 6th August 2026 ) DEVELOPMENT OF NEW AIRPORTS 3186. SHRI NARAYAN TATU RANE Will the Minister of CIVIL AVIATION be pleased to state:- (a) whether the Government has prepared any list of the projects approved for the construction and development of new airports during the last five years and if so, the details thereof, State-wise; (b) the number of airports currently under construction along with the current status thereof; and (c) the details of the expenditure incurred on modernization of the airports during the last five years? ANSWER Minister of State in the Ministry of CIVIL AVIATION (Shri Murlidhar Mohol) (a) & (b): In the last five years, the GoI has accorded 'In-Principle' approval for setting up of Greenfield Airports namely, Doloo in Assam, Puri in Odisha, Parandur in Tamil Nadu and Kota in Rajasthan. As per the GFA Policy, the responsibility for implementation of the Greenfield airport projects lie with the airport developer concerned.The timeline for completion of an airport project depends upon many factors such as land acquisition, availability of mandatory clearances, financial closure etc. (c): Modernisation and expansion of airport infrastructure is being undertaken by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and Public Private Partnership (PPP) partners at Brownfield and Greenfield airports, along with the development of unserved and underserved airports under UDAN Scheme. During FY 2021-22 to FY 2025-26, AAI and PPP Partners have incurred Capital Expenditure of approximately Rs. 87,590 Crore towards airport development. ******
