SHRI JAI PRAKASH: THIRU THANGA TAMILSELVAN: Will the Minister of COMMUNICATION be pleased to state: (a) whether it is a fact that the Department of Posts is considering to developing some of its prime real estate for commercial purpose as part of a plan to revamp and reposition the entire network including the 1.6 lakh post offices into a profit centre; (b) if so, the details thereof; (c) whether the Government has any data about the number of properties possessed under the Department of Posts along with its values, localities across the country, State-wise; and (d) the manners/procedures to be identified to earn new income through this postal property? ANSWER MINISTER OF STATE FOR COMMUNICATIONS AND RURAL DEVELOPMENT (DR. PEMMASANI CHANDRA SEKHAR) (a) No, sir. No such plan has been prepared by the Department of Posts. (b) Does not arise in view of (a) above. (c) Yes, sir. The Government has data about the number of properties that are with Department of Posts, but its valuation has not been carried out.
