Parliament Question: Development of Single-location Integrated Steel Plants

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF STEEL LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 3900 FOR ANSWER ON 11.08.2026 DEVELOPMENT OF SINGLE-LOCATION INTEGRATED STEEL PLANTS 3900. SHRI G KUMAR NAIK: Will the Minister of STEEL be pleased to state: (a) the details of single-location integrated steel plants that are operational, under construction and approved in the country, indicating promoter, proposed capacity, investment, captive raw material linkages and present status, State/UT-wise; (b) the details of projects approved including the stage of implementation, land acquired, statutory clearances obtained and expected date of commissioning during the last five years; (c) whether the Government has identified any bottlenecks affecting the establishment of such plants, including availability of iron ore, coking coal, land, logistics and environmental clearances and the corrective measures taken; and (d) the additional crude steel capacity expected to be created through these projects by 2030? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE (SHRI BHUPATHIRAJU SRINIVASA VARMA) MINISTRY OF STEEL (a)to(c): Steel is a deregulated sector, and the Government acts as a facilitator by creating a conducive policy environment to enhance domestic steel production and capacity, reduce import dependence and attract investment. Decisions regarding the setting up of steel plants, including the availability and sourcing of raw materials such as iron ore and coking coal, land acquisition, logistics and other project-related aspects, are taken by individual steel companies based on techno-commercial considerations and location-specific factors. The present crude steel capacity is about 220 MT, and the National Steel Policy, 2017 envisages a capacity of 300 MT by 2030- 31.
