KARNATAKA RAISED BY DR. PRABHA MALLIKARJUN
(a) to (f): Identification, development and promotion of tourism
destinations and products is primarily undertaken by the concerned
State Governments (SGs)/Union Territory Administrations (UTAs).
However, the Ministry of Tourism through its central sector schemes of
‘Swadesh Darshan (SD)’, ‘Swadesh Darshan 2.0 (SD2.0)’, ‘Challenge
Based Destination Development (CBDD)’ – a sub scheme of SD2.0 and
‘Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual, Heritage Augmentation Drive
(PRASHAD)’ supplements the efforts of the States/UTs by providing
financial assistance for the development of tourism related
infrastructure and experiences across the country, including in the
State of Karnataka.
In addition, Government of India under its initiative for ‘Special
Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) – Development of
Iconic Tourist Centres to Global Scale’ scheme, has also provided
financial assistance to the States for development of tourism projects.
The details of the project sanctioned under the aforementioned
schemes in the State of Karnataka are annexed.
The destinations/sites under the above mentioned Schemes are
considered for development based on their tourism potential, cultural,
historical and heritage importance, existing level of development
among others. Further, these schemes envisions a pan Indiadevelopment so that the amenities developed contribute towards
overall improvement of tourist destinations by enhancing tourist
mobility, accessibility and developing basic tourism infrastructure with
modern visitor amenities.
