Parliament Question: Development of Tourism in Amroha

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF TOURISM LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO.†1235 ANSWERED ON 27.07.2026 DEVELOPMENT OF TOURISM IN AMROHA †1235. SHRI KANWAR SINGH TANWAR: Will the Minister of TOURISM be pleased to state: (a) the details of the progress made in developing Amroha district, Uttar Pradesh as a heritage, spiritual and cultural tourism destination by integrating historical sites, ancient temples Shah Vilayat Dargah, Tigri Dham, traditional handicraft centres and other local cultural attractions with tourism infrastructure, tourist amenities, digital promotion and heritage tourism circuits; (b) the details of the works relating to tourism infrastructure, village development and publicity/ promotion undertaken in the said district under various central Government schemes; (c) the details of the funds sanctioned, released and utilised for tourism development in the said district during the last three years; (d) the details of the progress made in terms of the number of tourists, generation of local employment development of tourism facilities and strengthening of heritage-based tourism in the said district; and (e) the details of the projects identified by the Government for promoting sustainable heritage and cultural tourism in the said district? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF TOURISM (SHRI GAJENDRA SINGH SHEKHAWAT) (a) to (e): Identification, development and promotion of tourism destinations and products including heritage, spiritual and cultural is primarily undertaken by the concerned State Government (SG)/Union Territory Administration (UTA). However, the Ministry of Tourism through its schemes of ‘Swadesh Darshan (SD)’, ‘Swadesh Darshan 2.0 (SD2.0)’, ‘Challenge Based DestinationDevelopment (CBDD)’ – a sub-scheme of SD2.0, and ‘Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual, Heritage Augmentation Drive (PRASHAD)’ complements the efforts of tourism infrastructure development by extending financial assistance to the State Governments/UT Administrations; subject to adherence to scheme guidelines, submission of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) by them, availability of funds, Government directions, inter-se priority etc. The projects are executed by the SG/UT implementing agencies and after completion, Operation and Management of created assets is also undertaken by the concerned SG/UTA. In addition, Government of India under its initiative for ‘Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) – Development of Iconic Tourist Centres to Global Scale’ scheme, has also provided financial assistance to the States including Uttar Pradesh in the year 2024-25 for development of tourism projects. Sanctioning of project under applicable schemes is a continuous process and Ministry of Tourism has sanctioned multiple projects under aforesaid schemes in the state of Uttar Pradesh; with an overall objective to enhance tourism experience and resulting in employment generation at destinations. Details of the projects sanctioned under SD, SD2.0, CBDD, SASCI and PRASHAD schemes in the state of Uttar Pradesh is annexed. In addition, Ministry of Tourism promotes India as a holistic tourism destination including sustainable, heritage and culture tourism.
