SHRI ARUN KUMAR SAGAR: Will the Minister of CONSUMER AFFAIRS, FOOD AND PUBLIC DISTRIBUTION be pleased to state: (a) whether the Government has devised any welfare schemes to distribute foodgrains stored in the FCI godowns among the poor; (b) if so, the details thereof as on date; and (c) the quantum of foodgrains distributed among the people through the said schemes during the last three years, State-wise? ANSWER MINISTER OF STATE FOR MINISTRY OF CONSUMER AFFAIRS, FOOD & PUBLIC DISTRIBUTION (SHRIM ATI NIMUBEN JAYANTIBHAI BAMBHANIYA) (a) & (b): The Government is implementing the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) in all the States/UTs which aims to supplement the food requirements of up to 75% of the rural and up to 50% of the urban population, which at Census 2011 comes to 81.35 crore persons . At present, against the intended coverage of 81.35 crore, 80.56 crore persons are covered under PMGKAY.
