Parliament Question: Distribution of Foodgrains

Will the Minister of CONSUMER AFFAIRS, FOOD AND PUBLIC DISTRIBUTION be

pleased to state:

(a) whether the Government has devised any welfare schemes to distribute foodgrains stored in the FCI godowns among the poor;

(b) if so, the details thereof as on date; and

(c) the quantum of foodgrains distributed among the people through the said schemes during the last three years, State-wise? ANSWER MINISTER OF STATE FOR MINISTRY OF CONSUMER AFFAIRS, FOOD & PUBLIC DISTRIBUTION (SHRIM ATI NIMUBEN JAYANTIBHAI BAMBHANIYA)

(a) & (b): The Government is implementing the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana

(PMGKAY) in all the States/UTs which aims to supplement the food requirements of up to 75% of the rural and up to 50% of the urban population, which at Census 2011 comes to 81.35 crore persons .

At present, against the intended coverage of 81.35 crore, 80.56 crore persons are covered under PMGKAY.

(c): Under the PMGKAY, foodgrains are distributed to Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) households, which constitute the poorest of the poor at 35 kg of foodgrains, per household per month and to Priority Households (PHH) at 5 kg of foodgrains per person per month, free of cost, w.e.f. lst January, 2023. A statement showing the state-wise, year wise distribution of foodgrai.ns during the last three years under PMGKAY is at Annexure.
