GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF ROAD TRANSPORT AND HIGHWAYS LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 6236 ANSWERED ON 2ND APRIL, 2026 ELECTRIC VEHICLE STATION 6236. SHRI KALYAN BANERJEE: Will the Minister of ROAD TRANSPORT AND HIGHWAYS सड़क परिवहन औि िाजमार्ग मंत्री be pleased to state: (a) the number of electric vehicle stations constructed/under construction and proposed to be constructed across the country in the coming years, State-wise; (b) the number of electric vehicles sold in terms of two wheelers, four wheelers and buses during the last three years, State-wise and the detailed plans for safety in desolate places and poorly maintained stations with clear guardrails, road signage, markings, streetlights and other infrastructure particularly in and around port and restricted areas; (c) the details of private sector installations with internet disruptiveness and the blueprint for the smart highway revolution with electric vehicles in the near future; and (d) whether the Government has any proposal for considering a universal payment application across the country for electric vehicle charging stations and if so, the details thereof? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF ROAD TRANSPORT AND HIGHWAYS (SHRI NITIN JAIRAM GADKARI) (a) to (b) Government in the Ministry of Heavy Industries, have installed a total of 49,909 Electric Vehicle Public Charging Stations (EVPCS) in the country as on 30.03.2026. The setting up of an EVPCS is an unlicensed activity and private players can install EVPCS as per guidelines dated 17.09.2024 issued by theMinistry of Power. The State/UT wise details for installed EVPCS are at Annexure-I. Further, an allocation of Rs.2,000 crore has been made under the Pradhan Mantri Electric Drive Revolution Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM E-DRIVE) Scheme, for deployment of EVPCS on pan-India basis. As per the VAHAN Portal, the details of registered two-wheelers, Four-wheelers and buses during the last three years are provided at Annexure-II. Considering that the setting up of an EVPCS is an unlicensed activity, maintenance of the same is in the ambit of the Charge Point Operator. (c) The Government in Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, through public/private participation, encourages adoption of digital infrastructure like electronic tolling through FASTag, Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) based traffic management etc. The Government has taken up installation of Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) in Four lane and above NHs. ATMS has provisions for various electronic enforcement devices which help in speedy identification of incidents (including traffic violations) on the highway stretches and effectively monitor the highways, thereby improving incident response time and road safety.
