GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF RAILWAYS LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 671 TO BE ANSWERED ON 03.12.2025 ESTABLISHMENT OF GATI SHAKTI CARGO TERMINALS (GCTs)
671. SHRI SAPTAGIRI SANKAR ULAKA :
Will the Minister of RAILWAYS be pleased to state:
(a) the number of Gati Shakti Cargo Terminals (GCTs) sanctioned and established under the GCT policy since its inception;
(b) the details of private investment mobilised for the development of railway cargo terminals under the GCT Policy during the last three years, Year-wise; and
(c) whether the Government observed any increase in railway freight revenue following the implementation of the GCT Policy and if so, the details thereof? ANSWER MINISTER OF RAILWAYS, INFORMATION & BROADCASTING AND ELECTRONICS & INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (SHRI ASHWINI VAISHNAW)
(a) to (c) : Following the introduction of the Gati Shakti Multi-Modal Cargo Terminal (GCT) policy in 2021, Indian Railways has approved ...2/--2- proposals for 306 GCTs. Of these, 118 GCTs have already been commissioned. The private investment mobilised on this account since inception of GCT policy is around Rs. 8,600 crore.
The year-wise details of the freight revenue for traffic handled at GCTs during the last 3 financial years, is as under - Financial year Freight Revenue 2022-23 2,901.86 Cr.
2023-24 7,712.36 Cr.

GCTs bring more cargo to railways. This also helps the economy by reducing logistics cost. Moreover, more cargo by railways means less emissions. *****
