Establishment of Kendriya Vidyalayas and Navodaya Vidyalayas in Odisha
2108 Dr. Sasmit Patra:
Will the Minister of Education be pleased to state:
(a) total number of Kendriya Vidyalayas and Navodaya Vidyalayas established in
Odisha, district-wise, along with names of the specific locations and the year of
establishment;
(b) total number of teachers employed presently and number of students studying
in each of these institutions in Odisha presently;
(c) total number of these institutions running in own premises and those running in
rented premises; and
(d) how many more Kendriya Vidyalayas and Navodaya Vidyalayas are expected
to be established in Odisha in the future?

(a) to (d) As per information received from Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), at
present, 76 Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) are functioning in the State of Odisha out of
which 57 KVs are running from their own permanent premises, while 19 KVs are
functioning from rent-free temporary buildings provided by the respective Sponsoring
Agencies having 65733 students (as on 31.12.2025) and 1727 teachers (as on
01.01.2026). The Government of India has recently sanctioned 57 new KVs in
October, 2025 across the country, including 06 KVs in the State of Odisha, namely (i)
Pallahara (Distt. Angul) (ii) Nilagiri (Distt. Balasore) (iii) Padampur (Distt. Bargarh) (iv)
Rasol Hindol (Distt. Dhenkanal) (v) Udala (Distt. Mayurbhanj) and (vi) Rairakhol (Distt.
Sambalpur). The district-wise details of KVs functional in the State of Odisha are at
Annexure–I.As per information received from Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS), all the 30
Districts of Odisha have been covered under the Navodaya Vidyalaya Scheme and
total 31 Navodaya Vidyalayas (NVs), including one additional NV in Malkangiri (ST
concentrated) are functional in Odisha State. All these NVs are functioning from their
permanent campuses having 16814 students (as on 31.12.2025) and 568 teachers
(as on 31.12.2025). The district-wise details of these NVs are at Annexure–II.
Opening of new KVs is a continuous process. KVs are opened primarily to cater
to the educational needs of the wards of transferable Central Government Employees
including Defence & Para-Military personnel, Central Autonomous Bodies, Central
Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) and Central Institute of Higher Learning (IHL) by
providing a common programme of education throughout the country. Proposals for
opening of new KVs may be sponsored by Ministries or Departments of the
Government of India/State Governments/ Union Territories Administrations, with
commitment to provide requisite extent of land, free of cost and suitable rent-free
temporary accommodation for setting up a new KV, as per Kendriya Vidyalaya
Sangathan (KVS) norms.
