THIRU THANGA TAMILSELVAN Will the Minister of CIVIL AVIATION be pleased to state:- (a) whether it is a fact that the Master Plan for the expansion of Coimbatore Airport is being undertaken by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) including the increase in the length of runway from 2990 meters to 3810 meters, construction of a new passenger terminal, cargo terminal and an air traffic control-cum-technical building, construction of precast boundary wall for the newly acquired land for the project, increase the length of runway, new passenger terminal and cargo terminal; (b) if so, the details thereof along with the time by which the proposed expansion is likely to be completed; and (c) whether the Government is facing any impediments in executing the expansion works and if so, the details thereof? ANSWER Minister of State in the Ministry of CIVIL AVIATION (Shri Murlidhar Mohol) (a) to (c): The expansion of airports is a continuous process and is undertaken by the Airport Operators from time to time depending on the availability of requisite land, commercial viability, socio-economic considerations, and the traffic demand or willingness of airlines to commence/increase operations.
