******STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (A) TO (D) IN
RESPECT OF LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. 273 FOR REPLY
ON 06.08.2026 REGARDING EXPANSION OF DIGI YATRA PLATFORM
ASKED BY SHRI RAHUL SINGH LODHI AND SHRI KHAGEN MURMU
(a) to (d): The Government has undertaken a phased expansion of the Digi
Yatra ecosystem. Starting with 3 airports in December 2022, Digi Yatra is
now available at 39 airports. Digi Yatra has been designed as a citizen-centric
platform focusing on accessibility, inclusivity and ease of use. Several
passenger-friendly features are available in Digi Yatra, including, Driving
Licence-based enrolment through DigiLocker and multilingual support. Apart
from English, 11 Indian languages namely Hindi, Tamil, Bengali, Marathi,
Kannada, Telugu, Gujarati, Odia, Assamese, Sanskrit and Malayalam are
supported in Digi Yatra app. Further, the Digi Yatra ecosystem is
continuously improved based on passenger feedback received through
customer support channels and airport interactions.
Digi Yatra provides seamless, hassle-free and faster passenger processing,
saving approximately 50% of the passenger's time at different checkpoints at
the airports, as compared to manual validation, which helps in addressing
congestion at the airports. Since launch, Digi Yatra app has been downloaded
over 2.5 Crore times and it has been used more than 10.75 Crore times by
passengers to travel through Digi Yatra enabled airports.
The Digi Yatra Central Ecosystem (DYCE) is built on the fundamental tenets
of privacy. Digi Yatra app is built on privacy by design and there is no central
storage of passenger's Personally Identifiable Information (PII) data, thereby
mitigating issues of data loss, theft and leakage. All the passenger data is
encrypted and stored in the passenger's smartphone wallet and shared only for
a limited time duration with the origin airport, where the passenger's ID needs
to be validated. The data is purged from the system within 24 hours of the
scheduled departure time of the flight.
Digi Yatra complies with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and
the Rules made thereunder. Regular security assessments, vulnerability
assessments and audits are undertaken to strengthen the overall security
posture of the platform. These measures ensure that Digi Yatra remains a
secure, privacy-preserving and trusted digital identity platform for seamless
passenger processing.
