SHRI JAGGESH Will the PRIME MINISTER be pleased to state:- (a) whether the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board has cleared the proposal to set up two 700-MWe pressurised heavy water reactor units at the Kaiga nuclear power station in Karnataka; (b) whether the regulatory clearance pertains specifically to the ‘first pour of concrete’, marking the commencement of construction for Units 5 and 6 there; (c) whether Larsen & Toubro has already dispatched four of the eight steam generators required for the upcoming units; and (d) whether addition of these units forms part of Government's broader plan to expand nuclear power capacity under the fleet-mode programme and if so, the details thereof? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR PERSONNEL, PUBLIC GRIEVANCES & PENSIONS AND PRIME MINISTER’S OFFICE (DR. JITENDRA SINGH) (a) Yes. The Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) has accorded consent for siting and construction of 2 X 700 MW, Pressurised Heavy Water Reactors (PHWRs), KGS- 5&6, at Kaiga in Karnataka. (b) Yes. Consent pertaining to ‘First Pour of Concrete’ (FPC) has been obtained for commencement of construction for Units-5&6 at Kaiga, in Karnataka. Accordingly, ‘First Pour of Concrete’ (FPC) of Kaiga-5&6, achieved on 01.03.2026 marking commencement of construction. (c) Yes. Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has delivered four Steam Generators for KGS-5&6. (d) Yes. The addition of these two units is the part of first fleet-mode programme and they will contribute to the Nuclear Energy Mission announced by the Government to reach a capacity of 100 GW of nuclear power capacity by 2047. *****
