EXPANSION OF SEWAGE AND SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT IN BARMER
NO. 730. SHRI UMMEDA RAM BENIWAL:
Will the Minister of HOUSING AND URBAN AFFAIRS be pleased to state:
(a) whether the Government has expanded the sewage and solid waste
management system in Barmer city of Rajasthan;
(b) if so, the details thereof; and
(c) whether there is any proposal to expand similar infrastructure in other
desert cities of Rajasthan and neighbouring States and if so, the details
thereof?

(a) to (c) : Swachh Bharat Mission -Urban 2.0 has been launched on
October 1, 2021 for a period of five years with a vision of achieving
Garbage Free Status for all cities in the country through 100% source
segregation, door to door collection and scientific management of all
fractions of waste. It also includes a new Used Water Management (UWM)
component to holistically deal with fecal sludge & septage in cities
having less than 1 lakh population as per census 2011.
Under UWM component of SBM-U 2.0, against mission allocation of Rs.
916.10 Cr, action plan with total project cost of Rs. 1785.45 Cr having
central share of Rs. 892.72 Cr have been approved so far for setting up
sewage treatment infrastructure/facilities in all the eligible cities of
Rajasthan in accordance with the action plan approved by State Level
Technical Committee (SLTC) meeting. Barmer city with more than 01 lakh
population is not covered under UWM component of SBM-U 2.0.

Under Solid Waste Management (SWM) component of SBM-U 2.0, against
mission allocation of Rs. 541.80 Cr, action plan with total project cost of
Rs. 1372.47 Cr having central share of Rs. 505.36 Cr have been approved
so far for setting up various waste processing facilities and remediation
of legacy waste in all the eligible cities of Rajasthan including Barmer in
accordance with the action plan approved by SLTC meeting.
To deal with overall sewerage and septage management across the urban
area of the country, Government launched the Atal Mission for
Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) in 500 cities on June
25, 2015. AMRUT 2.0 has been launched on 1st October 2021 to make
cities ‘self-reliant’ and ‘water secure’. AMRUT 2.0 will extend the ease of
living by up-scaling universal coverage in water supply from 500 cities to
all statutory towns in the country.
Under AMRUT, in the state of Rajasthan, project worth Rs.2360.19 Cr.
under Sewerage and Septage Management has already been undertaken.
Under AMRUT 2.0, project worth Rs.5673.70 Cr. has been approved under
Sewerage and Septage Management.
Rajasthan State has not taken up any sewerage/septage management
projects in Barmer city, However, one water supply project worth ₹46.34
crore and one water body rejuvenation project worth ₹3.16 crore taken up
in Barmer city.
