Expenditure on education
4227 Dr. John Brittas:
Will the Minister of Education be pleased to state:
(a) actual expenditure by Union Government on education during the last five years as percentage of
GDP;
(b) year-wise and State-wise details thereof;
(c) actual expenditure by State Governments on education during the last five years as percentage of
GSDP;
(d) year-wise and State-wise details thereof;
(e) year-wise growth rate in Union Budget allocations for Education during the last five years, and
the extent to which such growth, in real terms, has kept pace with inflation; and
(f) year-wise details thereof?

(a) & (b): As per latest report on “Analysis of Budgeted Expenditure on Education” Expenditure on
Education by Union Government and its percentage of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) from 2017-18
to 2021-22 is given as under:

(e) & (f): The budget allocation of the Ministry of Education has increased by 33.6% during F.Y. 2022-
23 to F.Y. 2026-27. The year-wise budget allocation is given as under:
