EXPORT PROMOTION INITIATIVES FOR TURMERIC
2932.SHRI VAMSI KRISHNA GADDAM:
Will the Minister of COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY (वाणिज्य और उद्योग मंत्री) be pleased to state:-
(a) the steps taken by the Government to promote the export of turmeric from Telangana;
(b) the volume and value of turmeric exports from Telangana over the past five years, year-wise;
(c) whether there are any specific schemes or assistance available to help turmeric farmers and
exporters meet international quality, packaging, and safety standards, if so, the details thereof;
and
(d) the role of the recently established National Turmeric Board in boosting turmeric exports, and
how it is expected to benefit farmers and producer groups in Telangana and other turmeric-
growing States?

(a) to (d) The Government through the National Turmeric Board and the Spices Board has been
undertaking several measures to promote the export of turmeric from country, including from the
State of Telengana. These measures inter alia include participation in international trade
fairs; organization of Buyer Seller meets; undertaking testing and clearance of export consignments
of turmeric to major export destinations; post-harvest quality upgradation; support for processing
and value addition; installation of turmeric boilers, polishers, slicers and washing equipment;
capacity building programme for stakeholders of turmeric on quality improvement and
entrepreneurship development.
Further, the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare also implements various programmes
under the ‘Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH)’ scheme for the development
of horticulture crops, including turmeric. These programme aim to increase production, productivity
and quality of produce to meet the growing demand in both domestic & export markets.
The volume of export of turmeric from India during FY 2025-26 (April-December) stands at
1,42,386 MT which is 4 % higher than the corresponding period of FY 2024-25. The details of
volume and value of turmeric exports from Telangana over the past five years, year-wise, are
attached as Annexure-I.
