*281. SHRI SHAKTISINH GOHIL:
Will the Minister of ROAD TRANSPORT AND HIGHWAYS be pleased to state:
(a) total number of toll plazas managed by NHAI or other road agencies equipped with
FASTag facilities, recording vehicle number, time of passage, toll charged, and FASTag
issuer;
(b) total number of motor vehicles registered in India having active FASTag facilities;
(c) whether FASTag transactions generate reliable time-stamped vehicle movement data;
(d) whether the Ministry or NHAI has examined integrating FASTag data with VAHAN,
SARATHI, e-DAR, PUCC, insurance and fitness databases for enforcement under Section
136-A; and
(e) if so, details thereof and if not, reasons for non-utilisation of FASTag data?

SHAKTISINH GOHIL REGARDING FASTAG DATA FOR ELECTRONIC TRAFFIC
ENFORCEMENT AND ROAD SAFETY.

(a) FASTag based Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) system has been implemented across all Fee
plazas on National Highways.
(b) As of February 2026, about 6.05 crore FASTags are active across the country and used for
electronic toll transactions at National Highway Fee Plazas. Presently, more than 98% of user fee
on National Highways is collected through FASTag (Electronic Toll Collection).
(c) Yes Sir. FASTag transactions generate time-stamped digital transaction records when a
vehicle crosses a fee plaza equipped with ETC infrastructure.
(d) & (e) FASTag transaction data is integrated with VAHAN which is further integrated with
SARATHI, Electronic Detailed Accident Report (eDAR), Pollution Under Control Certificate
(PUCC), Fitness, Insurance etc. Section 136A of Motor Vehicle Act, 1988 facilitates electronic
monitoring and enforcement of road safety. The implementation and enforcement through e-
Challan system falls within the jurisdiction of the respective State Governments. FASTag data is
shared with State Governments on request to support enforcement and related activities under
section 136A.
