Parliament Question: Fertilizers Transportation through Coastal Shipping

SHRI RAJESH NARANBHAI CHUDASAMA: Will the Minister of PORTS, SHIPPING AND WATERWAYS be pleased to state: प(cid:419)न, पोत प(cid:464)रवहन और जलमाग (cid:91)म(cid:287)ं ी (a) the quantity of fertilizers transported via coastal shipping over the past five years, port-wise, including in Gujarat; (b) the number of ports upgraded to facilitate fertilizer coastal shipping and any financial or policy incentives offered to promote small vessel/barge-based last-mile delivery; (c) whether the Government has assessed the need for a fertilizer-specific port to streamline import, storage and distribution logistics; and (d) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor? ANSWER MINISTER OF PORTS, SHIPPING AND WATERWAYS (SHRI SARBANANDA SONOWAL) (a) The details are given in the Annexure. (b), (c) and (d) Major Port Authorities have adequate infrastructure to facilitate fertilizer cargo through coastal Shipping. The Government has promoted Coastal Shipping through measures such as providing concessions in vessel and cargo related charges to coastal cargo vessels, introduction of green channel clearance for faster evacuation of coastal cargo, priority berthing policy to reduce turnaround time for coastal vessels, enactment of Coastal Shipping Act 2025 and reducing GST on bunker fuel used by Indian Flag vessel.ANNEXURE THE QUANTITY OF FERTILIZERS TRANSPORTED VIA COASTAL SHIPPING OVER THE PAST FIVE YEAR PORT WISE: (In Tonnes) Year-wise Sl.
