Parliament Question: Functioning of International Bird Centres

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF ENVIRONMENT, FOREST AND CLIMATE CHANGE RAJYA SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 1503 TO BE ANSWERED ON 12.02.2026 Functioning of International Bird Centres 1503. SHRI I.S. INBADURAI: Will the Minister of ENVIRONMENT, FOREST AND CLIMATE CHANGE be pleased to state: (a) details of recruitment plans including ecologists, ornithologists and technical personnel for effective functioning of International Bird Centres (IBCs), including Vedanthangal and Koonthankulam Bird Sanctuaries; (b) the details of mechanisms devised to monitor long-term impacts of IBCs on migratory and resident bird populations, their habitats and overall ecological balance in Tamil Nadu; (c) whether coordinated management of IBCs with Ramsar sites, Vedanthangal, Koonthankulam and other bird sanctuaries are proposed to ensure integrated and holistic bird conservation nationwide; and (d) the measures taken to minimise disturbances from tourism, research and urbanisation while promoting responsible eco-tourism, awareness and protection at Vedanthangal, Koonthankulam and other IBCs? The protection and management of wildlife and its habitat is primarily the responsibility of the concerned State Governments and Union Territory Administrations. *****
