GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF HOME AFFAIRS LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 2883 TO BE ANSWERED ON THE 10TH MARCH, 2026/ PHALGUNA 19, 1947 (SAKA) FUNDS TO NFIES 2883. DR. BYREDDY SHABARI: Will the Minister of HOME AFFAIRS be pleased to state: (a) the total funds allocated, released, and utilized under National Forensic Infrastructure Enhancement Scheme (NFIES) since its approval, State-wise; (b) the number of Central Forensic Science Laboratories (CFSLs) planned and established under NFIES, with funds allocated, released and utilised for each, including locations and operational status thereof; (c) whether the Government has received any requests from Andhra Pradesh for establishment of a CFSL, and the current status of such proposals; (d) the number and locations of off-campus centres of the National Forensic Science University (NFSU) established under NFIES, along with funding details thereof; and (e) whether the Government has received any proposals from Andhra Pradesh for setting up an NFSU off-campus centre and if so, the status thereof? ANSWER MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HOME AFFAIRS (SHRI BANDI SANJAY KUMAR)-2- L.S.US.Q.NO. 2883 FOR 10.03.2026 (a) to (e): The Government of India has approved the National Forensic Infrastructure Enhancement Scheme (NFIES) with a total financial outlay of ₹ 2254.43 crore from financial year 2024-25 to 2028-29. Under the scheme, ₹ 1309.13 crore have been allocated for setting up of 09 campuses of the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) and ₹860.3 crore for setting up of 07 Central Forensic Science Laboratories (CFSLs). Funds to the tune of ₹ 64.01 crore have been released and utilized under the scheme, ₹64 crore for the NFSU campuses and ₹0.01 crore for CFSLs. The Scheme is being implemented centrally for creation and strengthening of forensic infrastructure at identified locations. Under the scheme, setting up of 09 campuses of the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) has been approved in Nagpur (Maharashtra), Raipur (Chhattisgarh), Khordha (Odisha), Chengalpattu (Tamil Nadu), Rajasthan, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, and West Bengal. The NFSU campuses are currently operational from Transit buildings allotted in Nagpur (Maharashtra), Raipur (Chhattisgarh), Khordha (Odisha), Chengalpattu (Tamil Nadu), and Jaipur (Rajasthan).-3- L.S.US.Q.NO. 2883 FOR 10.03.2026 Further, setting up of 07 Central Forensic Science Laboratories (CFSLs) has also been approved in Raipur (Chhattisgarh), Khordha (Odisha), Chengalpattu (Tamil Nadu), Rajasthan, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Kerala. Out of the 07 approved CFSLs, CFSLs at Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar are to be established in co-location with the NFSU campus. No such proposal has been received from the Government of Andhra Pradesh for setting up of CFSL. So far, land for NFSU campus / CFSL has been allotted in Nagpur (Maharashtra), Raipur (Chhattisgarh), Khordha (Odisha), and Chengalpattu (Tamil Nadu). *****
