(a) Public transport expansion, including bus fleet additions and
introduction of new routes, is undertaken by the respective State
Governments and Union Territory Administrations through their
transport authorities and State Transport Undertakings.
Central Government supports public transport enhancement
through centrally supported initiatives. About 1083 kms of metro
rail lines (including 55 kms of Delhi Meerut RRTS) are operational
in 25 different cities namely, Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida,
Ghaziabad, Faridabad, Ballabgarh, Bahadurgarh, Gurugram,
Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Chennai, Jaipur, Kochi, Lucknow,Agra, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Nagpur, Kanpur, Pune, Meerut,
Gandhinagar, Indore and Patna.
"PM-eBus Sewa" of Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs
(MoHUA) launched on 16th August 2023 aims to augment city bus
operations in urban areas with Central Assistance (CA) of
Rs.20,000 crore for deploying 10,000 electric buses under the PPP
model. Cities with a population between 3-40 lakhs and other
State Capitals with less than 3 lakh population as per 2011 census
are eligible. So far, out of these 10,000 buses, Government has
approved demand of 9,360 e-buses from 15 States and 4 UTs
covering 106 cities.
(b) The Government in Ministry of Road Transport and Highways
allocates funds to the State Governments / Union Territories (UTs)
for development and maintenance of State Roads under the Central
Road & Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) Scheme as per the provisions of
the amended CRIF Act, 2000.
State / Union Territory (UT) - wise details of accrual and
release of funds for development and maintenance of State roads
under CRIF Scheme during the last three years are enclosed as
Annexure.
(c) Accident prevention initiatives for National Highways (NHs)
undertaken by the Ministry are as under :
i) National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is implementing
Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) in all 4 & 6 lane
National Highway (NH) projects. ATMS is also being implemented in
the NH projects executed in past as standalone work or through
Change of Scope (COS). ATMS includes installation of CCTV / ANPR
cameras which capture video footage 24x7 and its monitoring is
being done at command centres and toll plazas.
ii) Actively undertaken public awareness campaigns to promote
road safety on National Highways across India. The following major
initiatives are being taken to create awareness and enhance safety
among road users:-
Road Safety Month/Week is observed every calendar year for
spreading awareness about safer behaviour of road users on
National Highways.
Road safety awareness messages are being regularly spread
on social media like Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. A nationwide campaign targeting students and citizens with
road safety education, interactive events and celebrity
endorsements.
Includes participation from celebrities to amplify the message
of safe driving.
Training sessions for toll plaza staff on emergency response
and customer services.
Organising Walkathon, Exhibition on Road Safety along with
Essay Writing/Poster Making Competition / Nukkad Natak and
Mass awareness events.
Distribution of pamphlets etc. to road users at Toll plazas,
wayside amenities, food stall points during the Road Safety
Month/Week.
Awareness drives for Road Safety through Flex banners,
organizing Workshops and discussions.
Check rear-side for Red light or Retro reflective sheeting to
avoid rear-end collision and get installed reflectors/retro-
reflective tapes on trucks, tractor-trolleys and animal carts,
etc. at toll plazas.
Motivation and roadside safety awareness program for
school/college students through Quiz competitions, drawing
competitions, Essay writing and speech competitions, etc.
Special drives to stop overloading along with checking of over-
speeding, unauthorized parking, drunken driving, etc. with the
help of police department.
Health cum Eye Check-up Camp and the distribution of eye
glasses are conducted for truck/bus drivers operating on NHs.
Checking fatigue of truck drivers and educating them about
